8,000 feet up in the ruins

We're on the bus leaving by toll road for Teposcolula. This is where the ruins of Yucandaa are. Dr. Spores is our guide, and he is in charge of the dig. As we leave oaxaca, the roads get rougher.

First road, modern with tolls.
The next road is narrower but still paved.
Then over the Colonial bridge (will the bus get stuck on top and see-saw?)
Then the rough road to the archeological site.
This was when people got nervous. I'm in the front seat wondering if the rock ahead will get our oil pan. Did I mention there is no cellphone service up here, running water or ANYTHING??

The view from 8,000 feet up is great, so is the breeze, so is the fact that we are here withthe man who started the dig and built the museum-see next entry.

This site was dug by Dr. Spores-we found shards from the Early Formative (1800 BCE). It was inhabited continuously until 1550 (post Spanish). There was a great epidemic in 1530. Whole families were buried together. There are some small caves in the area, these symbolized entry to the underworld.
