"One Day in the Field=
One Month in the Lab"-Dr. Ron Spores

Dr. Spores took us to his lab in the huge old church "Templo y Ex-Convento de San Pedro y San Pablo" in Teposcolula. Currently a pop. of 5,000. When the Spanish arrived in the
1520's they found a well organized Mixtec society
with a lake in the valley. Today Dr. Spores' lab in the upper floors is surrounded by boxes of shards, bones, offerings, etc. He introduced us to the group who works there cataloging, sketching and cleaning the thousands of artifacts. The museum in the church was very sophisticated with signage and lighting. It shows artifacts from the dig, and a burial of a young lady who owned hundreds of pieces of jewelry.
